FRACT/ONS Review
The Coma Calling's Ep release, The Three Mirrors, proves that electronic music has not gone the way of dull loops. The three tracks are diverse in their makeup, yet all successfully create an intimate, warm tone that stands out in an age of Fruity Loops releases. The opening track, "Machine Drum / The Three Mirrors," comes in waves. The track fades in and hooks you with a plucked melody that is contrasted against electronic variations and swells, both fulfilling and discordant. "Flatr" is a purely ambient track that whines and moans like a bowed wire or train hauling down a deep tunnel. "Poems," the final track on the EP, is the most beat driven track. It stands out for its subtle variations on the beat, which sounds quite simplistic at first. As it progresses, however, small additions and swaps are made, rhythmically morse code melodies are introduced to create an unconventionally smart electronic tune.

The Coma Calling is Kyle Cramb, a multi-instrumentalist and native of Wichita, KS. Cramb crafts intricate arrangements that waver drunkenly through ambient textures, post-rock and bedroom electronics. His songs are often intimate and subjective allowing the listener to unpack them.
