About this Artist //

A soulful, home-recording collection with "Just enough salvation army stomp, chess records horn hits, and good old-fashioned noise to keep things interesting while the lyrics take a second look at the old-timey, high lonesome hobo way of dying."

//

This collection comes from Cigarette Trees, a 2009 release, which was recorded at their home in Westport in South Baltimore, MD. The recording ended up as an odd, noisy and tuneful bunch of songs. Just enough salvation army stomp, chess records horn hits, and good old-fashioned noise to keep things interesting while the lyrics take a second look at the old-timey, high lonesome hobo way of dying.

This Baltimore duo records, produces and packages their own work. "One of the advantages of doing [an album] DIY," the Baltimore City Paper notes about a recent Misses Ellen Sunday and Her Fantastic Cats record, "is you can do things such as turn a record around in the time it takes to rip some CD-Rs and paste a couple of photos-- of their house, presumably-- onto a cardboard CD sleeve." This is the mentality that the group seems to carry, playing entertaining and energetic live shows with the assistance of only a small kick drum and a handful of instruments.
